Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing will visit Japan from Aug. 10, a senior Foreign Ministry official said Wednesday.

Li will meet with Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi and plans to attend events marking the 25th anniversary of the signing of the peace treaty between Japan and China.

North Korea's nuclear weapons development program is expected to be high on the agenda in talks between Kawaguchi and Li.

Japan and China signed the Treaty of Peace and Friendship on Aug. 12, 1978. Formal ties were restored in September 1972.
