All Nippon Airways Co. said Friday it will invite employees to take a month off without pay starting in August.

ANA is acting to head off the impact of declining revenues stemming from the war in Iraq and the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome in Asia, both of which have scared away air travelers, it said.

The airline wants between 30 and 50 staff to take advantage of the cost-cutting program each month, it said.

The program will help the airline reduce annual expenses by between 100 million yen and 200 million yen in the year to March 31, it said.
