The telecom ministry on Wednesday asked communications and broadcasting companies to ensure the stability of international communications lines with Iraq and neighboring countries ahead of a looming U.S.-led war.
The Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications Ministry also urged the companies to boost security measures against cyber-terrorism and Internet hacking, and to tighten monitoring of radio waves, ministry officials said.
In addition, the ministry asked the Communications Research Laboratory, an independent public-sector institute, to cooperate in collecting data on the safety of Japanese nationals abroad over the Internet, the officials said.
