Fujitsu Ltd. has agreed to sell Fuji Xerox Co. its division for corporate computer printers used in large systems, the two companies said Wednesday.

Fujitsu and Fuji Xerox signed a memorandum of understanding on the matter the same day, the two companies said in a statement.

The deal calls for Fujitsu to transfer the personnel and technological assets that have been used in its printer division to Fuji Xerox, the two said.

Fujitsu, however, will retain its resources for developing and manufacturing compact printers for personal computers, the two said.

Fujitsu at present has a workforce of some 200 engineers in the large-system printer division. The number that will be transferred to Fuji Xerox has not been determined, a Fujitsu spokesman said.

The companies plan to finalize terms of the agreement with an eye to signing a final accord by the end of November, they said.
