The ruling Liberal Democratic Party endorsed a government bill Tuesday designed to help correct imbalances in the House of Representatives electoral system in terms of the weight of individual ballots.

The bill is expected to clear the Lower House in a plenary session Thursday with the support of the ruling bloc -- the LDP, New Komeito and the New Conservative Party -- as well as the Democratic Party of Japan.

It is designed to create five single-seat constituencies, one each in Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama, Shiga and Okinawa prefectures, and cut one each in Hokkaido, Yamagata, Shizuoka, Shimane and Oita prefectures, where ballots carry disproportionate weight compared with other constituencies.
