OSAKA — A woman and her two children were found dead Monday morning in their apartment in Tennoji Ward here, and police are questioning a 61-year-old man who was found at the scene.

Tamaki Ri, 44, her 9-year-old daughter, Miyoshi, and 5-year-old son, Masahiro, were found dead on their futon from apparent strangulation at 7:55 a.m. Monday after police responded to a call from the housekeeper, investigators said.

In the bathroom of the apartment, police found a 61-year-old man who said he was trying to electrocute himself by soaking a hair drier in water. The man, whose clothes were wet but who was apparently unhurt, confessed to the killings, police said.

"I killed my wife and children. I want to die," the police quoted him as saying. The man, who lived with the woman and children, refused to answer further questions.

The woman and the girl had marks on their necks indicating they had been strangled, while the boy was found with a rope around his neck, police said.
