Part of an engine cover on a Singapore Airlines Boeing 747 fell off Sunday on a flight to Tokyo from Singapore, Narita airport officials said.

Singapore Airlines reported the incident after Flight 998 landed at the airport near Tokyo at 7:33 a.m. The airport authority found nothing on the runaway, the officials said.

A check of the aircraft showed that a round duralumin panel was missing from the plane's No. 2 engine.

The panel may have come off during flight, but it caused no piloting problems, the officials said.
