Japanese video-game designer Hideo Kojima is among 10 people who Newsweek magazine says could shape the future.

In its edition to hit U.S. newsstands Monday, the magazine called his "Metal Gear Solid 2" game a breakthrough achievement.

"We use wind, rain, steam and other effects to make the players feel as though they're really there," Kojima, 38, was quoted as saying.

"Metal Gear Solid 2" was released by Konami Co. on Nov. 14 in North America and Nov. 29 in Japan.

Newsweek highlighted 10 people from fields such as politics, the military, education and entertainment as people to watch in the coming year and beyond.
