The U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk returned Sunday to its forward-deployed port in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, after taking part in the U.S.-led military operation against terrorist targets in Afghanistan.

The 81,123-ton carrier returned one day before Christmas Eve after spending nearly two months at sea. It left Yokosuka on Oct. 1.

Another ship that left port along with the Kitty Hawk -- the 8,422-ton, guided-missile destroyer Curtis Wilbur -- is also scheduled to return on Sunday.
