Japanese companies importing food products into China have petitioned Beijing to lift new quarantine regulations they say contradict the market openness expected from China’s entry into the World Trade Organization.

The Chinese government says the measures, which include requirements for more detailed labeling in Chinese, are designed to protect the health of its citizens.
