The House of Representatives on Tuesday unanimously approved two congratulatory statements for the Emperor and the Crown Prince to honor the first baby born to the Crown Prince and Crown Princess.

The baby girl is the third grandchild of the Emperor.

Lower House Speaker Tamisuke Watanuki and Upper House President Yutaka Inoue are to read out the statements Friday, when the Emperor officially names the baby in a ceremony.

The congratulatory statement to the Emperor adopted Tuesday by the Lower House reads: "We the Japanese public cannot be delighted more than with the birth of the Emperor's grandchild. On behalf of the Japanese people, the House of Representatives humbly extends its sincere congratulations and prays for the prosperity of the Imperial family."

The Lower House statement to the Crown Prince reads: "Nothing gives us more pleasure than the birth of a princess at this time. The house members, representing the general public, humbly offer our sincere congratulations and pray for the sound growth of the princess."

The House of Councilors is expected to adopt similar statements today.
