A man was arrested Friday on suspicion of abducting a 7-year-old boy in the city of Miki, Hyogo Prefecture, and demanding a ransom of 5 million yen, police said.
Takahiro Kasagi, 51, from the city of Himeji in the prefecture was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping Naito Kondo, a first-year student at an elementary school in Miki, on Thursday.
The arrest was made around 22 hours after the boy went missing on his way home from school.
Kondo was found unhurt with Kasagi at 1:20 p.m. near a public telephone at an expressway rest area in Himeji, police said.
