Toyota Motor Corp. has canceled meetings of its sales staff scheduled for later this month around Japan amid security concerns in the wake of last month's terrorist attacks in the United States, company officials said Wednesday.

Toyota was to hold a series of meetings for sales staff in various regions, starting in Tokyo and concluding in Okinawa, the officials said.

Around 700 employees had been scheduled to participate in the Okinawa meeting to report on sales at overseas outlets and to discuss future strategies.

Okinawa, which houses the bulk of U.S. military personnel in Japan, has seen a severe decline in the number of visitors and tourists since the attacks in Washington and New York.
