Antivirus software maker Trend Micro Inc. said Tuesday it has tied up with a Portuguese unit of Britain's Vodafone Group PLC to protect mobile phone e-mail communication in Portugal.

Trend Micro said it will provide virus protection to 1 million e-mail accounts controlled by Lisbon-based Telecel Vodafone with the support of Trend Micro's partner in Portugal, SOL-S.

Telecel Vodafone is Portugal's second-largest telecom firm.

"By offering free antivirus protection for a million mailboxes, Telecel Vodafone is taking a very strong stance in the fight against cyber crime and delivering on the vision of building antivirus and content security into the Internet infrastructure," Trend Micro said.
