The Financial Services Agency will begin talks with its British counterpart on a bilateral accord to exchange information on the supervision of securities houses and market transactions, FSA officials said Monday.

The matter will be discussed Monday in London when financial affairs minister Hakuo Yanagisawa meets Howard Davis, the chairman of the Financial Services Authority.

Such an accord would allow British and Japanese securities regulators to exchange information on brokerage houses to supervise and regulate their domestic securities industries.

Japan concluded a similar pact with China in 1997 and is expected to do so with Singapore soon.

The FSA also hopes to sign an agreement with the United States. Yanagisawa is expected to raise the matter when he meets Harvey Pitt, the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, in Washington on Thursday, the officials said.
