An automobile carrier and a tanker collided in the Pacific off Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture, early Thursday, the Japan Coast Guard said.

No one was hurt in the 2 a.m. collision between the 4,382-ton carrier Nichi Nichi Maru and the 749-ton tanker Sahei Maru, although the carrier took on water, forcing its 10 crew members to board the tanker. The coast guard said it is investigating the cause of the collision.
