Ford Motor Co. of the United States is considering making Hiroshima into an assembly hub for compact cars in the near future, Hiroshima Gov. Yuzan Fujita said Tuesday.

Fujita told a press conference that Ford Vice President Henry Wallace told him in Detroit late last month that Ford is considering making Focus compact sedans and other models in Hiroshima for shipment to other Asian countries.

Fujita met Wallace on April 23 during a visit to North and South America.
