A former bar hostess, arrested in 1997 after nearly 15 years on the run for murdering a colleague in 1982 in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, appealed her sentence of life imprisonment to the Supreme Court on Monday.

Kazuko Fukuda, 52, made the appeal after the Takamatsu High Court on Dec. 13 upheld a lower court sentence of life imprisonment.
