Mail containing an empty gun cartridge was delivered to the late Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi's older brother Monday, the same day the former prime minister's family received a similar cartridge at their private residence in Tokyo, police said Friday.

One cartridge was delivered to the house of Mitsuhei Obuchi, mayor of Nakanojo, Gunma Prefecture, on Monday morning, police said.

The envelope in which the cartridge was sent did not bear a return address, and the place where it was posted remains unknown because the postmark was illegible, they said. On Wednesday, it was learned that an empty cartridge was delivered to the family residence of the late prime minister in Tokyo's Kita Ward on Monday morning. The envelope, addressed to his daughter, Yuko Obuchi, was probably posted in Osaka on Sunday, police said.

Yuko Obuchi, the late prime minister's second daughter, is running for her father's Lower House seat in Gunma Prefecture's No. 5 constituency in Sunday's general election.
