A total of 28 kinds of food using genetically modified soybeans, corn and potatoes should be subjected to mandated labeling for genetically modified organisms, the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry proposed on Wednesday.

The ministry presented the proposal to a government panel on genetically modified food, with a draft report expected to be made public Tuesday, officials said.

They said the ministry hopes to formally decide on the labeling matter by the end of August and a final plan by April next year.
