A 92-year-old woman and her 65-year-old daughter were found stabbed to death in their apartment in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, police said Friday.

Shin Yamada and her daughter, Hiro, were stabbed in the neck and back two or three times, and died of blood loss in the apartment, which was owned by the mother, a few days previous to their discovery, according to police.

When Shin Yamada's son, Tetsuo, 57, first found the bodies Friday, she was lying facedown in her room with a kitchen knife protruding from her back, and her daughter was lying on her back in another room. The women's heads also bore bruises indicating they were beaten.

In signs of a robbery, closets were opened and clothes scattered in the victims' rooms, police said. The slaying probably took place April 19 because newspapers delivered to the victims' apartment have been left untouched since April 20, and lights inside the apartment have been on since the same day, police said.
