The government has decided that Ambassador Hiroaki Fujii will attend the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, on Sept. 6, Chief Cabinet Secretary Seiroku Kajiyama said Sept. 4.

No members of Japan’s Imperial family will attend, he added. The chief government spokesman told a news conference that although the British side had informally requested that the Crown Prince and Princess be present at the funeral, the government decided to decline the request after “taking all the circumstances into consideration.”
