Applications are now being accepted for the Second JETRO Business Japanese Proficiency Test for non-native Japanese speakers, the Japan External Trade Organization has announced.

The May 31 test on listening and reading comprehension will be held at JETRO offices in Tokyo, Osaka, Niigata, and Sapporo as well as 18 cities outside Japan. Those interested are invited to apply by March 19 to JETRO in Tokyo. For further information, a guide to the test and application forms, contact JETRO Test Secretariat, International Communication Department, JETRO, 2-2-5 Toranomon, Minato-ku, Tokyo 105 or telephone (03) 3587-1143, fax (03) 5563-2857.

The test was inaugurated last year with the cooperation of the National Language Research Institute, the Japan Foundation, and the Association of International Education, Japan, with the support of the Foreign Ministry, the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations (Keidanren) and other organizations to help give an objective evaluation of Japanese-language skills of non-Japanese who are interested in working in and with Japanese businesses. Those who pass the test will be qualified to take the Oral Communication Test to be held in Tokyo in September.
