Through April 30, the Royal Park Hotel in the Nihonbashi area of Tokyo is offering a spring kaiseki course menu featuring bamboo shoots at its Japanese restaurant, Genjikoh.
Freshness is key for bamboo shoots, which contain plenty of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Genjikoh offers an authentic kaiseki experience with this seasonal ingredient. The range of dishes offered include bamboo shoots that are pickled, boiled and fried, as well as rice mixed with bamboo shoots. Also included are other seasonal ingredients, such as flounder and prawn sashimi, roast Japanese beef and clams.
Besides the variety of authentic Japanese dishes, the restaurant offers views of a traditional Japanese-style garden.
The course costs at ¥15,750 is available for lunch, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and dinner, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The price includes tax but not service charge.

An energy-saving dinner to savor
For the upcoming Earth Day on April 22, the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi will hold an eco-conscious dining event called Candle Light Dinner at the ekki Bar & Grill restaurant from April 22 to 24.
To conserve energy, the restaurant will be lit only by candles and use locally produced ingredients cooked with energy-saving methods.
The dinner course includes a carpaccio of filefish, radish and organic carrot salad, and thinly sliced smoked beef, all produced in Tokyo and paired with organic wine. The price is ¥10,000 per person, including tax but not service charge.
In response to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, 50 percent of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society for relief efforts in the affected areas.

New Hiroshima hotel’s party plan
The Sheraton Hiroshima Hotel, which opened March 28, is offering a special party plan through June 30.
As part of the hotel’s grand opening service, the banquet buffet-style plan is available for a minimum of 20 people at the discounted price of ¥6,930 (normally ¥9,240) per head. The special buffet features seasonal ingredients and a wide variety of flavors, such as chilled, marinated jellyfish salad; prawn, guacamole and mizuna spring rolls; roasted beef sirloin; pumpkin soup; fried rice with crab meat; and Moroccan chicken. The buffet also includes tea and coffee. The hotel’s ballroom serves as the venue.
The price includes tax and service charge but not the fee to rent the ballroom.
Various business meeting plans are also offered at discounted prices until June 30.
