The Hotel New Otani Tokyo will open its outdoor pool during the Golden Week holidays, from April 29 to May 5.

Covering 2,000 sq. meters, the garden pool Maitai is 25 meters long with a 3-meter-deep diving pool and a 50-cm-deep children’s pool.

During Golden Week, the poolside cafe Trader Vic’s Outrigger will be open, fostering a tropical resort atmosphere with its original hamburgers and Maitai cocktail.

The pool is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (last entry at 4 p.m.), except during bad weather. The entrance fee is ¥6,000 for adults and ¥5,000 for children aged 4 to 12. There are discounts for New Otani Club members and those staying at the hotel. The fee includes tax and the use of towels, bathrobes, rockers and deck chairs.

One private, luxury cabana with beds and a sofa, Internet access and free-drink service, including champagne and tropical cocktails, is available all day for an additional ¥40,000.

Rain in Spain Cascades at ANA

The ANA InterContinental Tokyo will hold its Spanish Cena special dinner buffet at the Cascade Cafe from April 24 to May 5.

Dishes featured at the fair include paella cooked in a 1-meter pan, Iberian ham sliced to order, Spanish omelets, chickpea soup, La Mancha-style roast lamb leg and soft-shell shrimp sauteed in garlic.

Optional drinks include txakoli, a slightly sparkling white wine produced in the Basque Country in early summer (¥900) and frozen sangria, which uses frozen fruit instead of adding ice (¥900).

Also, guests will have chance to win a 20 percent discount on their dinner buffet bill by answering a question given by the hotel’s staff.

The buffet is available from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and starts from 5 p.m. and from 7:15 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The buffet costs ¥7,000 for adults; ¥5,600 for those older than 65; and ¥3,500 for those ages 4 to 8.

Ritzy champagne in Osaka oasis

The Ritz-Carlton Osaka’s popular summer promotion Champagne Garden starts from April 30, with a preview event April 29.

The hotel’s fifth-floor, open-air inner courtyard, with a fountain, plants and flowers, will open a bar offering champagne and snacks.

This year’s featured champagnes will be Veuve Clicquot’s yellow label and rose label varieties. Prices start from ¥2,200 by the glass. A la carte snacks include assorted fresh fruits (¥3,800) and a dessert assortment (¥1,200).

At the preview event, held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., a barbecue-style buffet with unlimited champagne and champagne-based cocktails will cost ¥10,000 per person.

Barbecue night events are also planned for July and August.

The Champagne Garden is open through the end of October, except during bad weather, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays.

Prices include tax, while an additional 13 percent service charge will apply.
