Aug. 23-Sept. 29

The paintings of Tokyo-based artist Hideki Tarui, a graduate of the Tama Art University, have won various awards, including the 2010 Tokyo Wonder Wall and Tokyo Wonder Seeds 2014 and 2016.

This exhibition follows Tarui's 2018 Hiromart Gallery solo exhibition "Charm Point" and features his new series of "floating feeling" oil paintings.

Inspired by abstract space in art and the idea that unframed paintings on canvas boards appear to float in front of the gallery walls on which they are hung, Tarui has chosen birds and butterflies, creatures that fly through the air, as his subjects.

Featured works include "Bird (Full of Vigor)," "Bird (Very Busy)" and "Bird (With The Ascending Current)," which express the motion of wings through Tarui's signature dynamic brushwork in vibrant colors and dramatic line drawing.
