Tokyo.JapanTimes, a Web site connected to The Japan Times and created to spur conversation about the capital, will celebrate the photos and final winners of its first photo competition at an exhibition in Tokyo's Roppongi Hills district on July 2.

From the almost 1,000 photos submitted, the exhibition will showcase 30 of the best. The eye-grabbing set of images ranges from children chasing a flying saucer to slick cityscape panoramas.

Designed as a fun way to see Tokyo through the eyes of its readers and connect with them offline as well, the photo contest was just one in a series of competitions held since the site's launch in February. The contest overwhelmed judges with an unexpected number of high-caliber, creative photos of scenes from across Japan.

A special lineup of DJs will provide the soundtrack for the evening at Heartland. Acts include Belgian DJ Hans and female DJs Byron Bay B, a pair of so-called race queens who incorporate house and electro elements into their set.

Another special guest is Yasumasa Yonehara, a famous Japanese photographer who pioneered a Polaroid-like style that some claim was the basis of the ad campaigns for U.S. clothing store American Apparel.

The Tokyo.JapanTimes Photo Exhibition will be held July 2 from 7 p.m. till 11 p.m. at Heartland in Roppongi Hills. Admission is free. For more information, visit bit.ly/tokyojapantimes
