The Paris Conservatory is sending its top young musicians to Tokyo for a debut performance.
Despite its long-standing history dating back to the era of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, this well-known music institution has been innovative while enshrining traditional styles and forms. Three groups are scheduled to visit: Trio Futurum, Trio Metabole and Latitude 5.
Trio Futurum comprises a Moroccan violinist/viola player, a French saxophonist and a Japanese pianist. Established in 2007, the group won the "Innovatoires" competition in Paris. Their current program includes Ryo Dainobu's "Cinq miniatures."
Trio Metabole formed in 2007 and its members are instrumental music graduates. They perform around Paris and have played in various festivals. This time, the group's program will include Johannes Brahms' Piano Trio No. 3.
Latitude 5 is a brass quintet. They formed in 2006 under celebrated horn player Jens Mac Manama. The group performed in the Academy of Lucerne Festival in 2008. This group will perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Laudes and Anthony Plog's Four Sketches for Brass Quintet.
The conservatory's students also plan to collaborate with students from the Toho Gakuen School of Music while in Japan. This performance will take place from 6 p.m. on July 11 at the school's Tokyo campus. They will then join with Tokyo University of the Arts students at 7 p.m. on July 13 for a performance at the Sogakudo Concert Hall on that school's campus.
