The Japan Times Bee, which was first held in 2010, is a spelling competition for students from Japanese and International schools in Japan. It is the only bee held in Japan that is officially recognized by the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the United States. Each year, the winner of The Japan Times Bee earns the right to compete in the nationally-televised U.S. final.

This year, 42 schools from around Japan will participate in the Japan Times Bee. Each school has already held their local bee to determine their representative participant.

Journalists are encouraged to attend the bee, to witness the competition and to see 8 to 14 year old school children show off their impressive spelling skills.
