Concession to Seoul paved way for Meiji sites to join World Heritage list; Alamo added
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee said Sunday it will add the "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution" to the World Cultural Heritage list, as well as eight historical sites in South Korea, including the Gongsan-Seong Fortress of the Baekje Dynasty, approved the day before.

Reform of prosecution
The Supreme Public Prosecutors Office on July 8 announced reform of the special investigation squads, which exist at the district public prosecutors offices in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. The reform was prompted by recent irregular events involving investigators of such squads, which have contributed to deepening people's distrust of the nation's prosecution system.
