Sendai 89ers coach Bob Pierce has challenged forward Takuya Komoda to be more assertive offensively, and it’s starting to pay off.

Komoda was 7-for-16 from the field in both weekend games against the host Gunma Crane Thunders, helping the 89ers (5-7) earn a sweep. He scored 14 points in the opener and 15, matching a season-high total, on Sunday. The 25-year-old Komoda is the Lawson Ponta Weekly MVP, the bj-league announced Tuesday.
