Regarding "Polluted water in Toyosu food market facility basements to be pumped out" (Dec. 11), what's really troubling about this whole scandal is the fact that if Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike hadn't blown the whistle on "Toyosu gate" those trying to cover up the toxic pollution would have gone ahead and opened the massive food market on schedule and to hell with any health risks.

How often have corrupt Japanese government officials done this in the past, ignoring the welfare of the people they're suppose to represent and protect? The Green Cross HIV scandal in Osaka comes to mind. The last time I researched this tragic crime, over 500 of the HIV victims had died. That was 10 years ago. I hope Koike puts the Toyosu scam artists in prison.
