I was so impressed with Shintaro Okuno's Jan. 16 letter, "Last respects on a lonely road." Thinking about the woman that Okuno encountered on his motorcycle, I wondered whether I could I get out of my car to pull a dead animal to the side of the road. I like to think that I could, maybe I could.

I always feel sad when I see a dead animal on the road, but I just keep driving. Next time I hope I have the courage to pay last respects properly.
