Regarding the recent vandalism of Zenkoji Temple following its decision to not host the start of the Olympic torch relay, it is a pity that people, whatever their reason, resort to vandalism instead of expressing their personal opinion in a more respectable and mature manner. Vandalizing a historical site simply to express a view is such a childish action. A change in attitudes is needed. Why not meet as a community and discuss the pros and cons of the issue involved instead of committing such acts? The real damage is not limited to the temple, but extends to the community as a whole because the site is a symbol of Japanese history.
