Toshiba Corp.’s Chief Executive Officer Satoshi Tsunakawa resigned Tuesday in the latest turbulent move at the firm, with his replacement pledging to move forward with a plan to split the company in two despite opposition from some investors.

Tsunakawa, 66, resigned following a board of directors meeting earlier in the day, and Taro Shimada, a 55-year-old executive officer and corporate senior vice president, succeeded him, the company said.
