Sharp Corp. said Tuesday it will launch a new LCD television and recorder of the 4K high-definition standard. Trial 4K broadcasts begin in Japan early next month, delivering a potential image with four times as much detail as the current standard.

Sharp's upcoming 70-inch model is expected to be priced at around ¥700,000 excluding tax, while the recorder will be priced at around ¥120,000 excluding tax, the company said.

Sharp's current 4K market share is about 10 percent, said Masanobu Tomatsuri, general manager of Sharp's digital information appliance division. "We aim for a roughly 30 percent share" in the current business year, he said.
