Exports of agricultural and marine products likely reached a record high near ¥500 billion in 2013, mainly due to increased demand in emerging Asian economies, farm minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said.

The government aims to double the figure by 2020, Hayashi said Wednesday during a meeting with Hiromasa Yonekura, chief of the Keidanren business lobby.

Exports of farm and marine products decreased in 2011 and 2012 amid the Fukushima nuclear disaster, which raised fears about radioactive contamination.
