A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday after driving his truck into a house in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, and attacking the three residents with a saw, police said.
The three people — one man and two women — as well as another man who detained the suspect, Akio Hirata, sustained minor wounds, according to the police.
Hirata, who according to police was refusing to answer questions, lives next door in a condominium, where he apparently started a fire before driving his truck into the house and assaulting the residents.
He tried to hang himself on the second floor of the house before he was arrested, according to witnesses.
There had been no reports of trouble between Hirata and the victims.
