Mazda Motor Corp. on Wednesday unveiled a hatchback of its top selling Mazda3, with the global release of the model and other versions to start this fall in North America.

The new Mazda3 will have several options for fuel economy, including newly developed 1,500cc gasoline and 2,200cc diesel engines. A sedan version in the domestic market, where the car is sold under the Axela brand, will have a hybrid model, the first for Mazda, although the release date is yet to be decided.

The Mazda3 has sold over 3.5 million units since the launch of the first model in 2003.
