Japan will send former Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori as the government’s special representative to the inauguration ceremony for newly elected Pope Francis on Tuesday, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Friday.

Mori, a nonparliamentarian, is the “most appropriate person,” Suga said.
