Japan extended $3,090,000 in grants to Nepal on Sunday during a visit by Foreign Minister Koichiro Genba.
The money is earmarked for raising farm output to bolster food security in the Himalayan nation, the Japanese Embassy in Nepal said.
Genba, who arrived in Katmandu on Saturday night, met with President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Sunday.
He also met with Maoist Chairman Prachanda, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and other political leaders.
"The Japanese foreign minister expressed hope that the peace process and a new constitution would be completed soon," Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha told reporters after seeing Genba off at Katmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport.
"The political party leaders assured him that the peace process has taken a qualitative leap in recent times and will conclude soon," Shrestha said.
