A top U.S. naval officer told Congress Thursday that the plan to relocate the Futenma air station within Okinawa “remains the best option.”

“The government of Japan appears to sanction that,” Adm. Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific Command, told the House Armed Services Committee. “We will continue the deliberations with them and attempt to see progress made over the coming year.”
