YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) A 15-year-old student was stabbed Tuesday in a classroom at a private high school for girls in Yokohama and a classmate was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.

Seishin Girls' Senior High School placed a 119 emergency call at around 12:20 p.m. after the first-year student was seriously injured in the attack, the police and the Kanagawa prefectural board of education said.

The suspect, also 15 years old, was arrested after admitting to police officers that she had stabbed the victim.

The suspect allegedly told the police that she had come to hate the victim and tried to injure her with a knife she had prepared Sunday.

The incident occurred during a Japanese-language class. The suspect attacked the victim, who was seated next to her at the rear of the classroom, with what appeared to be a fruit knife, school officials said.
