The Okinawa Prefectural Assembly unanimously passed a resolution Thursday urging the U.S. military to hand over, before indictment, an army staff sergeant suspected of involvement in a fatal hit-and-run last month in the village of Yomitan.

After the 27-year-old suspect refused to come to an Okinawa police station for questioning, the assembly, in the resolution, asked the U.S. forces for “sincere cooperation” in the investigation by handing the sergeant over to police and called for stricter discipline.
