Three working groups under the Government Revitalization Unit, which targets wasteful spending, may cut subsidies for local governments with nuclear plants, funding to address the shortage of doctors and official development assistance, according to sources.

The working groups, launched last month, are expected to listen to explanations from ministry officials and select about 250 budgetary requests as possible targets for cuts in budgetary requests for fiscal 2010. Group members will then inspect the targeted projects starting Thursday and screen about 200 of them.

Starting Nov. 11, the groups in publicized sessions will reveal what projects may actually be slashed.
