Toshiba Corp. said Tuesday it expects to book a group operating profit of ¥2 billion in the April-September first half, reversing its earlier forecast of a ¥30 billion loss.

The electronics giant attributed the improved outlook to cost-cutting.

Toshiba also said it now expects a group net loss of ¥58 billion for its operations, including the semiconductor business, in the six-month period, compared with its forecast in May of a net loss of ¥80 billion.

But the company revised downward its sales forecast to ¥2.96 trillion from ¥3.15 trillion in the face of the economic slump and a stronger yen. Toshiba will release its earnings for the fiscal first half on Friday.
