Some 94.9 percent of the 54.74 million households across Japan have claimed the stimulus checks issued by the previous ruling coalition, the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry said Friday.

The stimulus program issues ¥12,000 per person and an extra ¥8,000 to those 18 and under or 65 and older.

The Sept. 28 rate is 1.3 points higher than it was Aug. 31.

The last municipality to offer stimulus checks will stop taking applications on Nov. 20, but 732 of the nation's cities, wards, towns and villages, or some 40.7 percent of the total, have already stopped taking applications.

So far, nearly ¥1.91 trillion has been doled out to households, or 97.5 percent of the funds slated for the program.
