The Tokyo District Court decided Monday to release actress Noriko Sakai, who is facing multiple charges of illegal drug use, on ¥5 million bail.

Her release was expected to take place Tuesday at the earliest because the bail was not paid Monday, judicial sources said.

Sakai, 38, has been detained at Tokyo Wangan Police Station since her arrest Aug. 8 for alleged possession of amphetamines. She was first indicted Aug. 28 for possessing illegal stimulants at her home.

Her trial is set to start Oct. 26 at the Tokyo District Court.

Last Friday, the prosecutors filed an additional charge of smoking stimulants around July 30 at a hotel on Amami Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, where she was staying with her family to watch a solar eclipse.
