MITO, Ibaraki Pref. (Kyodo) A 57-year-old woman from Ibaraki Prefecture was found unconscious Saturday at JR Mito Station after her scarf got snagged in an escalator and choked her, police said.
A passerby found the woman at around 9:10 a.m. prone at the top of an escalator connecting the platform with the upper floor, the police said.
The woman, who is from the town of Ami, was taken to a hospital but remained unconscious.
Footage from a surveillance camera in the station shows the woman getting on the escalator alone and falling down, the police said.
The police are investigating the cause of the accident.
