The government adopted an estimate Monday that the economy will record almost zero growth in the fiscal year beginning in April.
The pessimistic view comes as the Diet is set to start deliberating a record-high ¥88.55 trillion budget for fiscal 2009. Prime Minister Taro Aso has shown his intention to fight the recession with every possible measure, even if he puts the government’s earlier resolve to impose greater fiscal discipline on hold.
